Day 1: the Bob Ross Experiment

So I've decided that I may try painting with Bob Ross. His shows normally lull me into a sort of trance and while what he says sounds simple when I think about my own skills when it comes to painting, I don't think even an idiot proof guide can help. But Bob Ross is a magical genius so who knows?

So the Bob Ross Experiment is this:

Hypothesis: If I watch the Bob Ross videos and do my best to follow his instructions with the same supplies he has, then I will be able to create a landscape with happy trees that will resemble something an adult made rather than a 5 year old.

So today my goal is to pick supplies. I've been checking online and there are Bob Ross painting sets but I obviously the more expensive the kit the more inclusive they are, including the corresponding DVD. I want to try the floral kits because the flowers look larger and less complicated than a full landscape but they only come with one brush and a few tubes of paint and no DVD. I know for sure I can't learn from an instructional pamphlet so I think I'll stick with landscapes.

So after about an hour of searching the internet I decided on Amazon since they ship to Hawaii for free. I picked the Deluxe Bob Ross painting kit. It comes in a wooden case with a palette, 7 paints, and the 4 brushes he used most on the show. I also ordered a pack of canvases. I figure with 6 canvases I'll up my chances of a better landscape. Pictures to follow....
