Two new experiments

Ok so my roommate and I went to the mall to renew his registration but he forgot to grab his car documents from the car so we decided to just window shop instead of doing anything constructive. We ended up at Borders and decided to see if we could exploit their bankruptcy by taking advantage of the sales.

I have to say I'm a little disappointed in the sale prices. Everything in the store was 20% off but that was about it. With that price reduction that puts them close to Amazon prices. My roommate mentioned that I wouldn't have to wait for the things I wanted to ship if I got them here so I should go ahead and buy anything I wanted now. I looked around and other than a Christy Miller volume one novel (childhood books I loved) I didn't see anything I was interested in, so I just hobbled around the store (I'm in a cast right now; I'm like a weeble...I wobble but I don't fall down).

When he was getting ready to check out I noticed some families were looking at a shelf full of what I thought were board games. I decided to be nosy and cozy up to them to see what they were looking at...science kits!!!! I love these. My family couldn't afford them when I was a kid and I was always so jealous of my friends who got to play with them.

So two in particular caught my eye. One was Spa Science which I was right...I'm looking on Amazon now and with the discount the Borders kit costs the exact same :( Oh well at least my roommate is right I don't have to wait a week to play.

This kit gives you the opportunity to make bath bombs, bath salts, sorta make soap, and make face masks. It only sort of makes soap because it gives you a piece of ready made plain soap and then you melt it down and pretty it up. Since it's so simple I may doctor it up more than what comes in the kit. Anyway, the recipes for the bath salts and bath bombs are extremely simple and if I can find a simple recipe for real soap I may try my hand at making home made spa gifts for Christmas presents.

And that ladies and gentlemen is my experiment....

Hypothesis: If I can master a kit with recipes for spa goodies made for teeny boppers, then I can make cheap yet personally tailored spa gifts for friends. And who knows??? My roommate suggested selling them at swap meets if they turn out really well.

Okay one dilemma though, Should I attempt to use dye? Pro: it is pretty, Con: it could dye people or bath tubs... I may try a small test batch and see if I turn myself blue, which would make me feel blue on the inside too, blue through and through.

Okay kit #2! Okay same thing with the price...on Amazon it costs the same as discounted at Borders. I love pretzels and I can follow food recipes pretty well and have been known to even go off book and whip up my own creations. So how is this an experiment, you ask??? Well the real challenge is twisting the pretzel. I know this may seem simple but while I can make things taste delicious I'm horrible at making them look good. For example, I make a very simple stuffing that looks like dried vomit but is normally the first thing gone at holidays.

So there you have it! My two new experiments I'll be working on. Pictures soon
